Celtic Cabaret Concert October 14th 2013
As falling leaves bring summer to a close, the resplendent music of Irelands Oirialla ensemble will be enriching an already colourful Eastern Townships. Drawing on the rich heritage of Ireland and Brittany, the renowned musicians of Oirialla will present their lively Celtic music at the Maison de la Culture in Waterloo, Quebec on Sunday, October 14, 2012, at 3 p.m.
Tickets are $23 in advance and $30 at the door and may be obtained by calling
(450) 292-3456 ext. 222 (Celtic Harmonies), or online at www.celticharmonies.ca

Oirialla comes from Ireland and features Nuala Kennedy on flute and voice, Gerry O'Conner on fiddle, Martin Quinn on accordion and Gilles Le Bigot on guitar.

This performance will mark the end of Oirialla’s appearances at Cape Breton’s Celtic Colours as well as Ottawa’s GigSpace. Opening the “Fall Colours” show will be The Eastern Townships Spirale ensemble which specializes in Québecois and World Music, along with In A Chord, a trio of three lively ladies.

The concert will be raising funds for La Maison Au Diapason, the recently built palliative care centre in Bromont, and for support of Celtic Harmonies International Festival.

Oirialla is comprised of fiddler Gerry O'Connor, singer and flautist Nuala Kennedy, accordionist Martin Quinn, and Breton composer and guitarist Gilles le Bigot. These musicians are renowned in their own right, and perform frequently as both soloists and ensemble players.
Their music will showcase both Irish and Breton songs and tunes. Many of these come from the ancient, mystical Irish kingdom of Oriel whose music has developed as an eclectic mix of rhythms, melodies, and strong poetical lyrics.

This will be a benefit concert for two very valuable Townships organizations – the recently constructed palliative care centre in Bromont, and Celtic Harmonies. I know that a lot of you attended the wonderful week long series of concerts just about this time last fall; the long and short of it is that they can continue only if the next series promises to put them in the black, and that is what this concert will help with. The other beneficiary is one of the finest palliative care homes in the country. I visited it today and was tremendously impressed. There's not a sign anywhere announcing what it is, and though it is large, it is anything but impersonal. Surrounded by forests it is situated, between Cowansville and the E.T. Autoroute 10.

In addition to Oirialla’s fine music, the show will be opened by two local ensembles playing separately and together– the World Music group Spirale and the finely tuned ladies’ vocal trio In-A-Chord. There’s more on the concert in the attached. I am privileged to be a member of the six-piece Spirale ensemble.

I hope you’ll come to Waterloo and listen to the exciting music of no less than thirteen musicians. We are fortunate to have OIRIALLA's four world-class performers – fresh from Ireland via Cape Breton’s Celtic Colours Festival – with us for their only Quebec appearance. Although individually they have many CDs to their credit, they will be launching their first ‘Oirialla’ CD during this tour. GREAT listening, and a GREAT Christmas present!

If you plan to attend, tickets are available as follows:
1.     – On line from Celtic Harmonies at  www.celticharmonies.ca
2.     – By phone (Celtic Harmonies) at 450 292-3456 ext. 222.
3.     – In person from Brome Lake Books, Knowlton (please, no phone orders!)
IF YOU RUN INTO A TICKET PROBLEM, PLEASE CONTACT ME – PREFERABLY BY EMAIL, though 450-297-2779 in a pinch – AND I’LL DO ME BEST!
This mailing is an ‘early’ one – the seats should be taken pretty quickly judging by past concerts.

Oirialla, Spirale and In-A-Chord will be eating at Knowlton's Le Relais Restaurant/Bistro, 286 Chemin Knowlton, after the show, so if you do not have dinner plans do join us!

I SPOKE TO THE OWNER TODAY, WHO TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD APPRECIATE HAVING A RESERVATION, BUT IT IS NOT A TOTAL NECESSITY IF YOU SHOULD DECIDE À LA DERNIÈRE MINUTE! You may reserve at (450) 242-2232
I'm SURE the fiddle(s) will be brought out!

Here's an enjoyable "OIRIALLA" video:   :    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMfFDZCj9wY

Hope to see you Sunday, October 14!
