The Government of Canada supports upgrades for Theatre Lac-Brome
BROME LAKE, QUEBEC–(Marketwired – Feb. 10, 2017) – Department of Canadian Heritage

The Honourable Denis Paradis, Member of Parliament (Brome-Missisquoi), today announced that Theatre Lac-Brome will receive $280,000 in funding for building renovations. Mr. Paradis made this announcement on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage.

This support, provided by the Government of Canada through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund, will be used by the organization to build a lobby adjacent to the theatre and extend its season to year-round.

• Theatre Lac-Brome, founded in 1988, is a performance space that features a wide variety of professional shows. The organization produces and presents works in both official languages for visitors and residents of Knowlton and neighbouring communities.
• The renovation involves site excavation and preparation, followed by the construction and design of the new entrance hall. The new space will feature, among other things, a small café-cabaret and box office.
• The project will also include a special artists-only area, as well as new specialized equipment to ensure compliance with lighting and soundproofing standards.
• Thanks to these renovations, Theatre Lac-Brome will be able to offer artists and audiences an updated, year-round performance space.

Last December, the Choir was thrilled to perform to large appreciative audiences.  We owe huge thanks to all of you who came.  Your generosity allowed us to make substantial donations: $600 to Helping Hands Food Bank in Cowansville, and an amazing $1500 to the Brome Lake Food Bank.

This Spring we turn our attention to supporting the needs of young people.  In Knowlton, all proceeds will be directed to the “Salamander Summer Camp”.  Meanwhile, proceeds from our out of town concert will support the creation of a music room at the Mansonville Youth Centre.  To enhance our performance and provide accompaniment, we have called on the skills of a talented woodwind trio led by John Barr, and accomplished pianists from within the choir.  In addition, two brave men have joined our ranks to round out the sound. Holding us all together is our amazing director, Susan Reininger.

Our concert, told in the style of a radio broadcast, script by our in house writer Vesta Jorgensen, opens with five beautiful nocturnes.  This is Mozart at his most lyrical, lighthearted and romantic.  The theme of love yearned for, love won, love lost, continues with the memorable toe-tappable melodies of the 1930’s Jazz age.  We laugh with Cole Porter’s cheeky, “Let’s Fall in Love”, yearn with, “I’ve Got You Under My Skin”, dance with Gershwin’s, “I’ve Got Rhythm”, and swing with, Ellington’s, “It Don’t Mean a Thing “.  You’ll be sure to float home feeling sentimental and a little nostalgic.

We are looking for a 2 bedrooms cottage or condo to rent in the Lac Brome area for Summer 2016. We are flexible in term of location. Having access to a lac would be a major plus since we have our kayaks.

We’ve been spending the last 7 summer in this area and we are looking forward to go back. We can provide you with references if needed.

The popular public market in Knowlton, which is on Maple Street and has been for the last several years since opening, will be moved to the site of the old Town of Brome Lake Municipal Garage. The Town has decided not to sell the land where the garage has stood and instead will use for the public market. The site is on Mont Echo Road just over the creek and should make a nice site once the land has been thoroughly decontaminated. Years of use as a garage and waste dumping facility have meant the decrepit old building currently on the site are on land that is well soaked in oils, PCB’s, lead and other toxic elements that would need to be removed prior to being declared safe for the embarkation of organic carrots and potatoes. A timetable for the clean-up and move are not yet known.

The Brome Lake Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that the store T Room located at 255 Knowlton Road in Knowlton, Lac-Brome won the prize for the contest Coup de coeur in the Town of Brome Lake.

The competition was created as part of the Gala Excellence of Brome-Missisquoi to be held on October 24, 2015.

Quadruple Olympic gold medalist Caroline Ouellette is teaming up with Barry F. Lorenzetti, President, CEO and Founder of BFL CANADA, for a benefit concert to be held on September 25th to raise funds for the Quebec and Ontario Provincial Women’s Hockey associations.

“I want to promote the sport that has enabled me to better myself while representing my country and to help pave the way for young girls and women who are interested in joining”, comments Mrs. Ouellette. She will also be addressing the audience before the concert.

Entertainment for the evening will be provided by the well-known tribute band REPLAY The Beatles. Spectators will no doubt relive great memories – enthusiasm and nostalgia guaranteed!

Mr. Lorenzetti, involved in many causes to support children and women and also Vice-Chairman for the Hockey Canada Foundation, is pleased by the prospect of producing the show: “Combining my love of hockey and the music of the Beatles makes for an innovative way to support Women’s Hockey.”

Meeting of the 5 candidates that are running in the Federal Election of October 19, 2015

The Brome Lake Chamber of Commerce is inviting all its members and all the citizens of the Town of Brome Lake to meet the five candidates who are running in the district of Brome-Missisquoi at the October 19, 2015 Federal Election. This meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 30 at 7 p.m. at the Lakeview Inn located at 50 Victoria Street, Knowlton.

The names of the candidates are as follows:

2. Mr. Patrick Melchior, Bloc québécois
3. Mr. Patrick Paine, Forces et Démocratie

The meeting will start with a presentation by each candidate on their electoral platform followed by 2 pre-established questions on major issues.  The meeting will conclude with a question period from the audience.
